Pieter Bostoen
Pieter Bostoen (° 1983) is a versatile creative with a background in interior design. Since graduating from the LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, he has conducted research in various fields of art and design, based on the conviction that good design arises at the crossroads of different disciplines. He recently founded "Antimaterie", in which he researches the centuries old craft of ceramics and translates it into a contemporary context. A distinct design language is recognizable: graphic and geometric elements with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and the combination of traditional and modern techniques. The sculptures take the form of masks. These ceramic masks are collected worldwide and are part of collections of renowned collectors, including Galila Barzilai's P.O.C. in Brussels, among many others.
Pieter says: “Masks have ancient ritual and cultural meanings: they are protective, concealing and revealing at the same time. I investigate how this loaded symbol can be translated into a contemporary and personal work of art. All this history, rituals, duality and meanings are the starting point of my research. How can I translate all this information into a personal design? What material can I use that correctly reflects the depth of the subject? This duality is the starting point for “Antimaterie. ”
